He and another professor taught this course together, and I enjoyed his lectures. It did bring me into the everyday life problems so I could immerse myself into the content. A clear structure for lectures, so you will not get lost.

Rafi was an absolute joy to have as a professor. He is very welcoming and casual in his style of teaching, which works perfectly for a first year course. There is not too much reading, and his lectures do a great job of helping you know what to take away from the readings.

I have mixed feelings about the class and felt like all the modules were too tied to settler colonialism

Very engaging and keeps the lectures interesting. Participation isn't required (in lectures) but he engages with everyone wholeheartedly. Passionate and organized, plus made human geog a lot less of a bore, though we did only have 3 tests (20% each) and one response letter (30%) but all of them were fairly straightforward.

What a prof. Great experience with Rafi this year--seems to be a pattern with the GEOG 121 restructuring having been a GRAND success.Grading is rather unclear but I guess that's what you get with any sort of essay-based examination. Prof is extremely approachable, knowledgeable, and will go to bat for you if you ask for any support. Go Rafi!

Rafi is such a good lecturer. I definitely recommend this course since it's been redesigned. He also gives great advice for the writing assignments in office hours. There are quite a few readings - make sure you know them because you'll need to connect them to course concepts on exams.

GEOG121 was rewritten from scratch for W1 2022. New course is highly interesting, well taught and current. Rafi is a great lecturer, he is clear and is highly accessible outside of class. He's very clearly interested and knowledgeable about the subject matter.Midterm and final both open book online. 50% of the course is 2 response letters though

Rafi is an amazing prof, he really cares about the subject matter and wants students to as well! This course is co-taught and both profs are amazing and kind. If you need to take GEOG 121 for credit, or simply are interested, ignore older comments because the course itself was re-written starting Winter 2022, and it's fantastic!

This is a great professor! I hope to take a class with him again. He really knew what he was talking about, his slides weren't text-heavy and he focused on engaging with the class. He generally focused on the information but would sometime tell stories about his research. He also has a great new york accent. I would recommend him and this class!

An absolute king 10/10, so knowledgeable, very accessible, genuinely so kind, does incredible work outside of teaching, organized and consistent. I cannot praise this man enough, if you have the option to take his class you should absolutely do it.

This prof tries his hardest with this awful course he was given. He is a co-professor and to me, the better of the two by far. He tries his hardest and his lectures are usually pretty interesting. I'm sure in another course he will be able to shine. Overall though do not take this course. It has almost nothing to do with geography and is so hard.

Could be better... could also be worse. I don't blame him. Rafi's a new prof and a co-prof for this mess of a course. Maybe he's good in another class but as for GEOG 121 itself DON'T TAKE THE CLASS. Random things that aren't even geography are just THROWN at you like a thousand degree baseball.

Don't take GEOG 121 unless you're really interested in human geo OR you need it (which sadly may be my case). Rafi's a cool guy and decent co-prof but didn't really get me engaged in geography. Other prof was worse.

Professor Arefin gave excellent, clear lectures. He was affable, approachable and very caring in office hours. This course shook all the racism you might have had right out of you. Highly recommended.
