Skiba has the heart to teach and is willing to talk to students. But I think he may lack teaching experience. Powerpoint is quite lengthy and sometimes what he says can be confusing. But he made clear exam expectations and tests were that bad.

Made an already hard class more unnecessarily harder. Who asks about SPSS in exams?

Dr. Skiba is one of the most caring professors I met during my 4 years at UBC. He genuinely wants you to succeed, is very open to giving any support, and provides extensions if you have a valid reason. His subject is not the most exciting, but he makes the most out of it. His grading is fair, the spread of a final grade is reasonable. :)

Dr. Skiba wants you to succeed in his class, but his 218 is a weird class. The actual content isn't necessarily complex in theory, but the teaching style of not doing ANY practice questions similar to the tests (lab assignments kinda) made it difficult to perform well in the class. If you are in this class, the textbook will be your key to passing.

The worst decision you could ever make is to take his courses. Taught a bunch of useless knowledge that would be covered in finals which other sessions don't have. Hilarious gradings, iCliker mandatory, and a bunch of textbook assignments. Also his lab demonstrations for spss are the worst of all. Dont risk or he will ruin your grades.

Tbh I appreciated that we had 3 midterms instead of two because this class is difficult so if you do poorly on one it's only 12% and you can make it up elsewhere. He provides useful equation sheets that make it easy to remember and memorize which equations are for which concept. Read the textbook and go to class and you will do well in this class!

Dr. Skiba was a really caring professor overall- super understanding and kind. However, be prepared for harsh marking on assignments and a test-heavy course schedule (3 midterms + cumulative final + multiple assignments). Overall a good professor though.

Since Dr. Skiba's lectures stemmed from the textbook (like copy and pasted), it didn't actually feel like he was teaching anything. Definitely read the textbook before class, and be sure to pay very close attention to the assignments portion of the course, as it will be graded harshly. Overall, disorganized professor, but easy grading.

Took this class in the summer and I hope no one has to ever again. The class was asych and he would post the lectures. Some lectures were from his previous class and some were new recordings which made it really confusing. Some of the lectures were just of his face talking, no slides projected which made it so confusing. Beware first-years!

His lectures can definitely be a bit dry at times and he'll go on and on throughout the entire 50 minutes without stopping and providing examples to concepts or clearing up major concepts. Midterms are extremely predictable and somewhat easy. Extremely accessible outside of class times.

by GOD, do not take this course. the other sections of 207 are far better I'm sure, and a better use of your time. he gives out high grades casually and then is forced to scale down the grades (by 10%, even) because of the department's policy. he clearly makes no effort into designing the course in such a way that it protects students' averages.
